Often we don’t see the treasure right under our nose. One Sunday afternoon, Dad, his buddy with the car and the buddy’s girlfriend drove from Deer Creek over to Bertha looking for a date for Dad. They cruised all over the place but couldn’t find a girl for him. So the three of them took off for a day’s adventure in Itasca State Park and, as you can see, had a grand time.
"I had all these nice girls in my class, I wonder why I never thought to date them,” mused Dad, shaking his head in disbelief. Then he lovingly identified each one of the “kids” in this junior class picture and told a tale of each one. Never a negative comment or derogatory word. They simply had a great time together as friends. He attended his class reunions faithfully until there weren't enough healthy ones left to have them anymore.
Somberly pointing out a picture of a girl, who I’d noticed with him in so many photos I thought they might have been a couple, he revealed, “Last I heard she wasn't doing well in a nursing home. I should have gone to see her.”He says that a lot. “I should have gone to see him/her more.”
There’s a treasure for you!
Go see somebody now, while there’s still time. Write a note of gratitude. They will receive such joy, and you will be so blessed.
Finally brothers, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable—if there is any moral excellence and if there is any praise—dwell on these things. Philippians 4:8
