Every evening, before going to bed, I journal a bit about my day. Last night, for the first time in memory, I wrote that it was a mundane day. That bothered me...a lot. So today I re-examined yesterday and found that it was special in lots of little ways.
-- It was my cousin's birthday, and I thought about her all day. Finally I wrote her a FB message telling her what she, a fun-loving teenage beauty queen, had meant to this adoring adolescent cousin. Her response was precious.
-- While standing in line at the grocery store, a young mom whose parent has just died met my eye. I shared condolences, and she gave me the strongest hug. We talked about our moms and had a meeting of the heart.
-- One of my children told me that they appreciated me.
-- The King plugged away all day on little projects that needed getting done around here. He was proud of what was accomplished, and I am thrilled.
-- Hummingbirds flitted around the bee balm outside the window at work, and a young cardinal and a little chipmunk shared a sprinkling of sunflower seeds dropped from the feeder.
-- A teen teller at the bank broke into a wide grin and blushed a bit at my, "Great tie!"
-- Chatted water levels and river conditions with the fellow kayak-loving woman ranger of Schoolcraft State Park where we'll end up this weekend after our next leg of the Mississippi adventure.
-- Larry made a delicious dinner using leftover steak. He raved that the beer he was drinking was the best beer he's had in a long time. I decided to have a glass of wine, and it was one the best I've had recently.
-- Reclining on our cool, breezy porch I started a new book, and Larry kept popping in so I could share interesting excerpts.
A very special day -- so glad I revisited it -- a gift, a treasure, a blessing -- don't want to take even one for granted anymore.
Wisdom will multiply your days and add years to your life. Proverbs 9:11
